Ongoing Coronavirus (Covid-19) situation

Dear members

It has been decided by the Committee that our committee meetings and Thursday night members meetings are suspended until further notice. The talk on the West Pier scheduled for 2 April 2020 is also postponed.

This decision has not been taken lightly but has become inevitable with the evolution of the virus.

Keep healthy, stay safe.

Recreational Bass keepers for 2020
From 1st March 2020 to 30 November 2020 we will be allowed to take home 2 (in size) cod per day

Hard work by Save Our Sea Bass and the Angling Trust has resulted in a better deal for recreational bass fishermen next year. Anglers will be allowed to keep up to two bass per day from March 1st to November 30th after the EU Council of Ministers agreed catch limits for 2020.

This positive move repairs some of the damage done since 2015 when the public’s ability to take a bass for the table was first reduced then completely extinguished by the EU for most of 2018, and only increased to one fish for a seven month period in 2019.

We are open for new members joining us.
Your membership brings with it all the benefits of bing a Club member.  You will be covered by our 3rd party insurance policy and members only boat fishing trips on our fabulous Oystercat.
If you have not renewed you membership you will not be able to take part in club activity and you will not be covered by our 3rd party insurance policy.
You may pay by cash or cheque on a Thursday night at the club or post your cheque to the secretary or pay by BACS after contacting the secretary for our bank details.
We would be sorry to see you go.

 EU recreational fishing restrictions  area
In ICES areas VIIj and VIIk from 1st January to 31st December  Bass catch and release only - January - March
Bass take 1 per angler per day - April - October
The image below outlines the area concerned…
The 42cm MLS is probably still insufficient. A female bass of 41 cm at start of the spring spawning period will not be a viable spawner, as their sexual maturity is around 46cm. By the time the following annual spawning period arrives, she will be approx. 46 – 48 cm and she will spawn for the first time. IF, with a 42 cm MLS she is caught during that 12 month period and retained she will have been killed BEFORE ever spawning. To ensure all females have at least one spawning, a MLS of 48 cm (2 lbs – 10 oz) is required.
